The masterclass invites all curious participants to look at the concepts and theories that influenced his work. Specifically you will be exploring together the space and body as a common ground for operating in the arts. He is looking an inhabited space as both territory and playground, a platform for an artistic creation. As the space is shrinking in contemporary societies, the body is in a conflict. Candoco Dancer Development Day / 15 June (10.00 - 16.00) Led by Candoco Dance Company, this Dancer Development Day will explore the company’s newest work Face In by Yasmeen Godder and offer an inclusive space for participants to play, make, discuss practice and exchange with Candoco’s company dancers. This day is designed for disabled and non-disabled dancers, artists and students at various stages in their careers. For more information and to book to see here Colette Sadler / 19 June (13.30 - 15.00) In their workshop, Colette Sadler and Leah Marojevic offer an insight into the choreographic research around the protagonist figure in "Learning from the Future", the fictional BODY A. After a movement warm-up, the participants will explore ways in which movement can articulate notions of a future body and work with choreographic tools and approaches that were used in the process of creating the work. This workshop is aimed at professional contemporary dancers. James Batchelor / 20 June (10.00 - 11.30) As part of his presentation of DEEPSPACE in BIDF, Australian choreographer and performer James Batchelor will lead a contemporary dance class for professional and advanced level dancers. The class will be an introduction to the physical and technical ideas that underpin James’ practice and idiosyncratic style of movement. James will guide participants through a series of short exercises dealing particularly with weight, balance and pressure, culminating in an extended movement phrase. James Batchelor / 21 June (10.00 - 12.00) This workshop will give an insight into the fascinating creative process behind James Batchelor and Collaborator’s DEEPSPACE. It will begin with a lecture / demonstration in which James will introduce participants to a physical mapping process he developed as part of a research expedition to the sub-Antarctic Heard and McDonald Islands in 2016. It is centred on the idea of an encounter with the unknown; a bodily sensing and scanning of space through touch. He will then guide participants to explore this process in their own bodies. The workshop is aimed at dance makers and/or those interested in working with the physical language of the body and its translation to other mediums. Midlands Made and DanceXchange Resident Teachers / 6, 13 & 20 June (19.30 - 21.00) Booking for this event has now closed.
